Proportions

Welcome to my Website!

Introduction

I first started this site because of the apparent rarity of websites dealing appropriately with the subject of Architecture, most offering either a shallow treatment of the matter or an exposition of it in a all too modern way, without concern with what the Old Masters, if we may call them thus, truly did. Instead of relying on the vast breadth of knowledge the Internet is supposed to give us, I found myself forced into consulting bad scans of old books, written by such eminent architects as Vitruvius, Palladio, Gibbs, Chambers and many others. In observing their engravings they etched and the buildings they built, it is possible to arrive to suitable definitions and sound principles upon which all can build, and not only descriptions that are unnormative. This website is certainly not complete, but it is a start, and should provide plenty of working material to those that have neither the time nor patience to arduously scavenge what they may from the masters.
